andrewstransport > Head of Steam museum interior, Darlington North Road, 15 November 2009 1 As can be seen, the museum is quite small. It has four locos. Here are three built at Darlington: Stockton & Darlington Rly 0-6-0 No 25 Derwent (1845); North Eastern Rly Tennant 2-4-0 No 1463 (1885); and NER T3 (LNER Q7) 0-8-0 No 901, later BR 63460 (1919).

andrewstransport > Stockton & Darlington Rly No 1 Locomotion, Darlington North Road, 15 November 2009 1 The 0-4-0 was built in Newcastle by Robert Stephenson & Co for the opening of the Stockton & Darlington in 1825. Locomotion was not named until about 1833. It was very much an experimental loco which required frequent and substantial repairs, so it is doubtful whether much of the 1825 original survives today.

andrewstransport > Stockton & Darlington Rly No 1 Locomotion, Darlington North Road, 15 November 2009 8 Water was fed to the boiler by the pump seen here below the nameplate. It was driven by the front cross-beam. As a result, the boiler could not be replenished if the loco were stationary.
