andrewstransport > Southern Rly 75.S, Locomotion, National Railway Museum, Shildon 1: Mon 8 October 2012.  4w third rail electric loco built by Siemens (8 / 1898) for the LSWR's Waterloo & City underground line.  It opened in 1898 and was initially electrified at 500V DC, later raised to 600V.

andrewstransport > North Eastern Rly No 1, Locomotion, National Railway Museum, Shildon, 23 April 2005.  600hp, 600V DC Bo-Bo loco built in 1905 by Brush with electrical equipment by British Thomson Houston for the NER's freight only Quayside branch in Newcastle.  Fitted with conductor shoes and a pantograph on the roof, as the branch had an overhead wire but a third rail in a tunnel.  Worked on the branch with a sister loco until it closed in 1964.
andrewstransport > Southern Region 2090, Locomotion, National Railway Museum, Shildon, Mon 8 October 2012.  2-BIL EMU built by the Southern Rly at Eastleigh in 1937 for long distance semi fast services over newly electrified lines from London to Eastbourne, Portsmouth and Reading.  2-BIL = 2 car, Bi=Lavatory, ie one toilet per car.

Leyland Experimental Vehicle 1 was built at Derby in 1979, with a Leyland National bus body on a four wheel railway chassis.  The various Pacer classes are derived from this prototype.  It even went to the USA for trials.  NB the traffic indicators!
