Hest Bank accident, 20 May 1965 1. The 1V42 2210 Glasgow - Kensington Olympia sleeper was partially derailed by a broken rail just north of the station at about 0220. The nine rear coaches were derailed but not D1633 and the first three coaches. Mercifully there were no fatalities and only eleven minor injuries. This photo shows the breakdown cranes from Lostock Hall and Kingmoor clearing the line, probably on 21 May. NB the camping carriages at right, a familiar feature at Hest Bank for many years. Photo by Bill Moorby.
