A-90 Orlyonok (Eaglet) ekranoplan, Moscow, 29 August 2015 1. One of five ground effect vehicles built in the 1970s for use as a fast transport or for amphibious assault. It is 58.1m long and has a wing span of 31.5m. It could cruise at sea level at 400km/h. Maximum takeoff weight was 140 tonnes, and there was a crew of six. It could carry a payload of 28 tonnes or 150 troops. In addition to the turboprop on the tail used for cruising there are two turbofans in the nose used for takeoff and landing. This craft entered service with the Soviet Navy in about 1980 and was active until at least 1993. It is seen on the Moscow Canal in north west Moscow.
