Bombardier Aerospace works, George Best Belfast City Airport, 17 May 2012 1. Shorts Brothers, then based at Rochester, Kent, opened the plant in 1936. They moved completely to Belfast in 1948. Bombardier took over Shorts in 1989, and the plant now makes airframe components.
