STOVL version of Lockheed Martin's successful contender in the 2001 Joint Strike Fighter competition for a single engine, stealthy, multirole aircraft. Subsequently developed into the F-35 Lightning II. The UK plans to order 138 STOVL F-35Bs for the RAF and Royal Navy, who will use it on the new Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers.
