Charles Lindbergh's Spirit of St Louis, Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Wasghington DC, 15 May 2017 1. Lindbergh made the first solo non-stop Atlantic crossing on 20-21 May 1927 in this aircraft. He flew from Garden City, Long Island, New York to Le Bourget airport, Paris, in 33.5 hours, a distance of 3,600 miles - almost twice as far as Alcock & Brown had flown. As well as being the first solo flight across the Atlantic, this was the first flight from North America to continental Europe.
