Welcome to Tangmere aviation museum! Sat 11 October 2014. RAF Tangmere is chiefly remembered for its role during the Second World War. In 1940 its squadrons took part in the battle of Britain. The following year, three of them were grouped into a wing commanded by disabled hero Douglas Bader. Later, clandestine night operations were flown to German-occupied France to deliver and pick up secret agents working for the French Resistance. After the war, the base was used for record-breaking high speed flights.
