19, 20) LNER A3 4-6-2 4472 Flying Scotsman & North Eastern Rly No 910, Shildon, 31 August 1975. Gresley's Flying Scotsman was built at Doncaster in 1923, withdrawn as BR 60103 in 1963 and privately preserved. Uniquely, it always had main line running rights, and has been very active. It visited the USA in 1970-73, and Australia in 1988-89. After changing hands several times it was acquired for the NRM in 2004, and then underwent a very long and expensive overhaul.
Fletcher's 2-4-0 was built at Gateshead in 1875. A century later, it was unique at Shildon in having taken part in two previous Stockton & Darlington Rly celebrations: the golden jubilee in 1875, and the 1925 centenary. In 2011 this NRM loco went on loan to the Stainmore Rly at Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria.
