E3009, Crewe Works, 1968. This was the loco wrecked in the Hixon level crossing disaster on 6 January 1968. It was hauling the 1130 Manchester - Euston, and slammed into a low-loader carrying a 120 ton transformer on the newly automated crossing. Eleven people lost their lives, including three railwaymen in the cab of E3009. It was scrapped at Crewe.
