Deltic, NRM, 28 May 2004
Deltic Prototype, National Railway Museum, York, 28 May 2004. Built in 1955 by English Electric as a speculative venture. It used two modified 1650hp Napier Deltic marine engines, and when built was the most powerful diesel loco in the world. It ran as a demonstrator until 1961, but BR ordered only 22 production versions of this impressive but complex machine.
