National Railway Museum, York, 2012: Steam
Dandy cart & Agenoria, National Railway Museum, York, Sat 8 September 2012. Agenoria is the oldest loco in the NRM. It was built in 1829, the same year as Rocket, for the Shutt End colliery, Kingswinsford, Staffordshire, by Foster, Rastrick & Co of Stourbridge. They built only four locos, but the other three were exported to the Delaware & Hudson Canal Company where one of them, Stourbridge Lion, became the first loco to run in the USA. Agenoria is believed to be practically identical with Stourbridge Lion. Unlike the American locos, Agenoria had a long life, working until about 1864. Like Puffing Billy it has vertical cylinders, but the wheels are coupled by a rod. Next to Agenoria is a horse-drawn dandy cart from as late as the 1850s. They allowed horses to rest when their trains were running down hill, and were first used on the Stockton & Darligton Rly in the 1820s.
