Townsend Hook, Amberley museum, Sun 12 October 2014 1. Townsend Hook is an 0-4-0T built in Whitehaven by Fletcher Jennings (172L / 1880) to the very unusual gauge of 3 feet 2.25 inches for the Betchworth, Surrey, chalk quarry of the Dorking Greystone Lime Company. The loco was No 4 in the Betchworth fleet, and is named after its chairman. It spent its entire life in the quarry, as did sister No 5 William Finlay (Fletcher Jennings L173 / 1880), which was named for the company's engineer and which survives in private ownership at Beamish.
