Welcome to Penrhyn Castle! Mon 22 August 2011 1: West front. This vast mock-Norman castle near Bangor in north Wales was built as recently as 1820-32 for the Pennant family, owners of nearby Penrhyn slate quarry, at one time the largest in the world. It is now in the care of the National Trust.
