Stainton headshunt, 18 September 2015. Looking north. The Brunthill depot stands on the stub of the Waverley Route from Carlisle to Edinburgh via Hawick. Trains reach it from Carlisle yard by reversing on this headshunt, just visible above the fencing. There is a loop on which locos run round their train. This line was opened in 1963 to connect the then new yard with the Waverley Route.
