Great Southern & Western Rly No 184, Whitehead, Tues 15 May 2012 1. No 184 is one of two GSWR class 101 0-6-0s owned by the RPSI, the other being No 186. As can be seen, it is an 1880 Inchicore product, one of 111 of these highly effective and versatile locos built between 1866 and 1903. The most numerous type ever to run in Ireland, they became class J15 on the Great Southern Rly. Unlike No 186, No 184 retains its original saturated boiler. It was not withdrawn until 1962. No 184 has worked under RPSI auspices, but now needs externsive repairs, including possibly a new cylinder block.
