No 1 Lancaster shunts coal wagons at Lancaster power station, 9 June 1973 1. The power station was situated east of Green Ayre station, alongside the 'little' North Western / Midland line to Settle Junction. After this line losed to goods in 1967 (it had closed to passengers in 1966), coal was delivered from the WCML via the branch from Castle station to Green Ayre until the power station (and the branch) closed in 1976. The coad trains were worked by class 25 diesels. Photo by Les Tindall.
