24 photos starring 5407 and 46229 Duchess of Hamilton. CMEs in those days used two steam locos, between Carnforth and Hellifield and Hellifield and Carlisle. There was a photo stop at Dent, photo and water stop at Garsdale, and two runpasts at Appleby.

Cumbrian Mountain Express, Sat 29 October 1983. 81005 hauled the train from Euston to Carnforth via Birmingham New Street. At Carnforth it detached and ran to Carlisle with the leading three coaches, which formed the catering section. 5407 then took the train via Wennington to Hellifield. There the train reversed and 46229 plus the 55 Club's three coaches joined for the run to Carlisle. At Carlisle, 46229 and its three coaches detached, and 81005 and its three coaches rejoined for the return to Euston.
