45212, 5Z20, Carnforth, Fri 3 March 2017 - 0942. The Black 5 arrives 100 late on a 0512 positioning move from the East Lancashire Railway. It had suffered a warm side rod bearing, and had stopped at Preston 0731 - 0842, and had also briefly gone inside at Barton & Broughton and at Oubeck. It had been coming for a loaded test run. This was 45212's first main line working since 3 August 1968 when it worked the 1P58 2048 Preston - Blackpool South portion off the 1L79 1705 Euston - Carlisle. This was the penultimate steam-hauled BR passenger service. The very last one left Preston just after 45212 when 45318 hauled the 2125 to Liverpool Exhange. 45212 was bought for preservation on withdrawal and has since been based on the KWVR with occasional visits to other heritage lines.
