66413, 5Z45, Carnforth, 8 January 2008 - 1445 The DRS loco emerges from WCRC's Steamtown base to stable the rear five WCRC Mk 2s it had brought from Oxley. (It had already stabled the front three.) These were the coaches booked for Spitfire Tours' 'Electric Scot Farewell' railtour on 29 December starring 87022, which was planned to be the very last working by a class 87 loco. DRS were the TOC for the tour. 66430 had taken the coaches from Carnforth to Oxley on 21 December, but by the day of the tour the batteries were flat. An ECS run behind 87022 failed to resuscitate them, and the tour had to be cancelled without ever starting - to the intense shock, anger and disappointment of many. There was no possibility of running the tour later, as the last operational 87s, 87022 and 87028, do not have OTMR, mandatory from 1 January 2008.
