Settle - Carlisle plandampf, February 2017

16 photos of the second of three plandampf days, when 60163 Tornado worked normal passenger services between Skipton and Appleby. There were two workings each way daily. The plandampf was organised by Northern Rail to publicise the Settle & Carlisle line in anticipation of its reopening north of Armathwaite on 31 March after a year-long closure caused by a huge landslip at Eden Brows.

Signals, Blea Moor, Wed 15 February 2017. New signal BM 29 at left was installed in autumn 2015 to allow stone trains from Arcow quarry to enter the loop in order to reverse. Barely visible in front of the semaphore is a new CCTV camera installed at the same time so that the Blea Moor signaller can confirm that a down train in the loop is complete and has its tail lamp. There has been a similar camera at the northern end of the loop for up trains for several years.
