Settle - Carlisle plandampf, February 2017
60163 Tornado & 67029 Royal Diamond, 2Z22, Horton-in-Ribblesdale, Wed 15 February 2017 1 - 0935. Northern's 0825 Appleby - Skipton 'Plandampf' service arrives. It called at Kirkby Stephen, Garsdale, Horton and Settle. This was the second of three plandampf days, with two workings each way between Skipton and Appleby. They were organised by Northern Rail to publicise the Settle & Carlisle line in anticipation of its reopening north of Armathwaite on 31 March after a year-long closure caused by a huge landslip at Eden Brows. As the 'Plandampf' name suggests, the idea of pre-planned passenger service steam workings originated in Germany. Lack of turning facilities at Appleby meant that Tornado had to work tender first on the southbound runs.
