Hitachi Rail Europe assembly plant, Newton Aycliffe, Tues 26 September 2017. The £82 million plant opened on a green field site in 2015 to assemble trains built in Japan. There is some British content. At the time of these photos it was working on class 800 bi-mode Intercity Express Trains for the Great Western and East Coast main lines, and class 801 EMU IETs for the ECML. It was also working on class 385 EMUs for ScotRail.
