Saint Basil's Cathedral, Red Square, Moscow, 30 August 2015 1. The cathedral was consecrated in 1561. It is a complex structure. Its upper level comprises the Church of the Intercession surrounded by eight smaller churches with their distinctive multi-coloured onion domes. In front is the statue commemorating Prince Dmitry Pozharsky and Kuzma Minin who are Russian national heroes. They saved Moscow in 1612 when they gathered an army and expelled Polish - Lithuanian invaders. The green dome at left is atop the Church of Saints Cyprian and Justina.
