HMS Onyx, Barrow-in-Furness, 2 February 2013. Oberon class submarine built at Birkenhead by Cammell Laird. Onyx was in service from 1967 until 1991, and landed members of the Special Boat Service during the Falklands War. She was initially preserved at Birkenhead by the Warship Preservation Trust. After the trust went into liquidation she moved to Barrow in 2006. Attempts to develop a submarine heritage centre at Barrow failed and in August 2013 Onyx went for scrap at Gareloch. Vickers built three Oberons at Barrow for the Royal Navy, and three for Brazil.
