on December 28, 2020Thanks for the info. Afraid I didn't get a better shot of the Warwick Aviation canoe, and I haven't been back to the museum since. I did visit Portsmouth dockyard boathouse 4 in 2019. My photo of the canoes is in my Birkenhead Ships album along with a photo of the Operaton Frankton memorial at Birkenhead.

on December 26, 2020The Mark 7 is a two man sectional WW2 [1944] wartime canoe. It could can be sailed or paddled. If you visit the FREE Boathose 4 exhits on the mezzine floor you will be able to view BOTH the Mark 7 AND an original WW2 'Co ckle' Mark 2 collapsible canoe. The Mark 2 was used in the December 1942 raid on Bordeaux. Unlike the skeleton based canoes the Mark 2 collapsed VERTICALLY along its 15ft length to c. 7 inckes in height. Original WW2 paddle are oval in shape.

on December 26, 2020These 'canoes' are NOT WW2 and DEFINATLY NOT used in the December 1942 raid and therefore not '!+$%le' canoes. They are both skeleton based with FIRM indications that they are from the post war modern era of the 'KLEPPER' stable. The paddles ARE WW2 items. FAR more interesting is the 18 ft bulkheaded WW2 Warwick Aviation Mark 7 duraluminium canoe and 8ft outriggers [containing pin pong balls] painted in light blue on the far right of this image; the paddles originate from the Mk7 canoe. See '!+$%leshell Canoes' by Quentin Rees.
