Former 'Sniper alley', Sarajevo, Bosnia-Hercegovina, 13 June 2014. Looking east towards the city centre along the Ulica Zmaja od Bosne (Dragon of Bosnia Road), During the siege, citizens of Sarajevo had to venture from their homes to buy essentials and visit friends and family. Snipers were active on this boulevard, killing 225 (including 60 children) and wounding over 1,000. As can be seen seen in this view taken from inside a bus, there is little trace now of those grim times. The Dragon of Bosnia is a Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) national hero, Husein Gradascevic, who led a rebellion against the Ottoman empire which began in 1831 but was defeated in 1833.
